Erik Johansson was born outside a small town that goes by the name of Götene in the middle south of Sweden. He grew up on a farm with his family and spent most of his time submerged in nature. For as long as Erik can remember, he liked to draw. Perhaps he thought it was because his grandmother was a painter, or it could just be the best way he knew how to express himself. At fifteen, Erik got his first digital camera, a point-and-shoot Fuji.
It was at this point that an entirely new world was opened up to Erik. He felt as if something was missing, though. Having an interest in computers, he would play around with the images, attempting to create something that couldn’t be captured behind the lens. Erik states, “That is how my interest in photo manipulation started, I learned by trying, but it wouldn’t become a profession until years later.”
