Amy Lombard is a photographer and director who shoots bold, color-drenched images of the quirks and rituals that make up American life. With Pawdicure, she turned that eye toward something a little different: nail art for dogs.
She created and styled the whole series herself, with her rescue dog Shelle as the model. Each shot treats a paw like a beauty portrait—close-up, polished, set against bright backdrops. What could've been a one-note joke becomes something more: a character study that borrows from fashion and cosmetics photography to make the mundane feel surprisingly intentional.
There's humor here, obviously. But there's also real care. By bringing manicure culture into the dog world, Amy blurs the line between affection and spectacle, turning a small, tender act into something theatrical and entirely her own.
Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and for clients like Puma, Google, and HBO. She's a James Beard nominee and has been named one of PDN's 30 Photographers to Watch and featured in the Magenta Foundation's Flash Forward.
