Exhibition Review: Janette Beckman

Exhibition Review: Janette Beckman

Fotografiska New York is proud to present Rebels:From Punk to Dior, an
installation of photography featuring the work of artist Janette Beckman. The work is curated by Amanda Hajjar, and Cey Adams. The exhibition celebrates the launch of Beckman’s monograph of the same title, published by Drago. Rebels: From Punk to Dior covers four decades of photography.

“I have always been attracted to documenting cultures and people who are passionate about doing things their own way regardless of society rules,” says the artist, Janette Beckman. “My journey has taught me there are no road maps, being an artist is just about following your passion no matter what happens.”

Janette began taking photos in London, capturing the likes of The Clash, Boy George and Blondie. In 1983 she relocated to New York City, where she began to focus on the growing hip-hop scene. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the Museum of the City New York and the British National Portrait Gallery.
