Fotografiska (NYC) recently exhibited the iconic Ellen von Unwerth’s, “Devotion! 30 Years of Photographing Women.” Ellen is a German fashion photographer who has contributed to numerous publications such as Vanity Fair, Paper Magazine, and Cosmopolitan. Her work gained worldwide attention in the 1990s, with Agent Provocateur, Chanel, and Dior. Ellen’s work is stylish, smart, and sexy, pushing the boundaries of gender identity. She states, “Looking back at a photographic career spanning over 30 years provokes many thoughts. I have done so much. The photographs become like a diary of meetings, people, and contexts that suddenly spring to life again. I always say, ‘let life come to you instead of trying to control everything.’ I want energy and movement in my images because that’s how life is. Exhibiting this retrospective at Fotografiska makes me incredibly proud.”
