Chloe Pitterson is COOPH's photographer for Women's Month 2021

March is Women's History Month, and in observance of celebrating it, COOPH spoke with New York-based photographer Chloe Pitterson. Chloe's work is inspired by the notions of philosophy, spirituality, and self-growth. She shared some of her bewitching images with us from the series Dance. In addition, she spoke with us about being a female photographer. She states, "I have always been entranced with the study and observance of body language. Body language is such an overlooked yet, primary determinant in how we communicate with those around us. Our core messages, what we are really thinking, is always revealed in our bodies…(Authenticity comes) when we act freely, for the sake of the action itself rather than for ulterior motives, as said by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi."

"I never think of myself as a "female photographer" until someone else highlights it. I just feel like a photographer. I understand how identifiers play a role in creating inclusion for those (women and minorities such as myself) who have been excluded from being a part of worlds/jobs/authority/industries, like photography, due to prejudices that have underlined how our society has run for so long. But I also believe that using such identifiers can & will create further division when we fail to see each other as human beings carrying potential and not preconceived characters that fit the constructs of what makes our society's history seem appropriate. For me, I am a photographer because I love to share the message of being limitless/ anything that you imagine is real once you tap into the grandeur of who you are, believe in, and get to work. I want to share the message through my work that you are powerful and can do anything."

Chloe's work has been exhibited at AHA Fine Art Gallery, Conception Arts, and Down East Gallery. She has been published in Maxim, Seven Tribes Magazine, and Whimsical Magazine.
