Thomas Havlik's High Contrast Portraits: A Cinematic Journey Through the Lens

Thomas Havlik's High Contrast Portraits: A Cinematic Journey Through the Lens

Meet Thomas Havlik, an Italian photographer with Czech roots, weaving his narrative magic in the world of fashion photography for the past five years. His photographic journey began with studies in London, and since then, he's been on a mission to capture more than just images—he captures stories.

Thomas's signature style is a reflection of his profound admiration for cinema. Rather than simply snapping pictures, he crafts visual tales that transport viewers into the heart of his subjects' emotions. Returning to Italy after his London stint, Thomas's work has graced exhibitions in Paris, Milan, and New York, solidifying his presence in the global photography scene.

For Thomas, every click of the camera is an opportunity to breathe life into characters, evoking the raw authenticity that defines cinematic storytelling. As he continues to traverse the globe, his vision is clear: to establish himself as a noteworthy figure in the dynamic world of fashion photography.

We asked Thomas to choose some of his favorite images in this PROFOLIO, and tell us a little bit about each one...

This photo was taken in my studio last year, I wanted to experience something new with my model. I wanted to give movement to my image, so taking inspiration from the great photographer "Paolo Roversi" I experienced the technique of light painting, in the end the result is pictorial almost of another era, I had a lot of fun trying this new technique and I am really satisfied, to see more photos you can see them on my site.

This photo was born with the collaboration between me and the model Irina, beautiful and statuesque and with a great feeling! We did some tests for some portraits then together we experienced some interesting things in the subway, this shot was taken after the arrival of a train, the result is beautiful, she seems almost a religious figure, I’m really fond of this shot.

Miriana, the eyes and the deepest look I’ve ever photographed. We have known each other since a long time, she started with me to take the first pictures at the age of 17, I always believed in her and even if she was not yet a model she had all the credentials to pierce the lens of my camera. This shot was made on a beach, she has a rose in her hand, everything is very poetic!

I was in Fuertevenutra when I took the photo that is in double exposure, I really like the landscape and the road trip, so I decided to create this double exposure with a portrait that I took of a girl during that time on the island, for this photo I was inspired by all the love I have for cinema, especially David Lynch and Nicolas Winding Refn my greatest inspirations.

I was with my friends in the mountains, we decided to go to lunch at a restaurant lost in nowhere. I found this waitress with this very distinctive red hair. After lunch I invited her to take pictures during sunset, I had my torch with me, I tried 2 3 shots and on the third I had the photo I wanted, an excellent result born from nothing without any kind of organization, a photo I keep in my heart

Red has a really important force in my photos, the photo was taken near where I live, it was blue hour time and the contrast with red created a magical moment that I will always carry in my heart.

I was in Paris for an exhibition, I met Margaux a model with whom a wonderful collaboration was born, her deep gaze brought incredible strength in these shots. The first shot was taken at a station while we were waiting for the train to take us home, this shot was really import for my career, brought many awards and will be used for a book cover. The second shot was taken in front of the moulin rouge, all the tourists watching us, she had become an attraction for the spectators.
