The Nature of Hope is a collaborative photographic project bringing together a global group of image-makers to reflect on the enduring relationship between humans and the natural world.
Released in the weeks between Jane Goodall’s birthday on April 3 and Earth Day, the project presents a curated selection of images spanning ecosystems, species, and geographies. From bioluminescent forests and flowering desert trees to aerial landscapes, marine life, and intimate wildlife portraits, the series captures both the planet’s fragility and resilience. Photographs by artists including Michael “Nick” Nichols, Cristina Mittermeier, Steve Winter, and Ami Vitale sit alongside works by a wider international community, forming a visual narrative grounded in observation and care.
The project brings together diverse photographic approaches, from documentary to fine art, unified by a focus on environmental connection. Each image reflects a moment shaped by patience, proximity, and an attention to natural detail, allowing the subjects—whether animal, landscape, or atmosphere—to remain central.
Rather than emphasizing loss, the collection focuses on continuity. It highlights the role of photography in shaping awareness and sustaining engagement, presenting the natural world as something still present, still active, and still worth protecting.
The Nature of Hope was created as an open-access visual essay, encouraging wider dissemination and dialogue around conservation, storytelling, and the legacy of Jane Goodall.
