These days many museums, art fairs, and galleries are stepping into the realm of the virtual. In March, Art Basel Hong Kong offered online “Viewing Rooms.” As per the usual VIP, viewings were on March 18th, and free days were open March 20th. Google Arts & Culture and Fast Company have teamed up with museums and institutions around the world to move the art world into the realm of the interweb. We spoke with Google Arts and asked them to share some more information about their project. They state, “The free Google Arts & Culture app puts the treasures, stories, and knowledge of over 2,000 cultural institutions from 80 countries at your fingertips. Immerse yourself into the world of culture through modern technologies such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Street View, and AI. It’s a doorway to all kinds of cultural heritage: discover Van Gogh’s bedroom paintings, Sports in Australia, Puerto Rico’s heritage, the women’s rights movement, ancient Maya temples, Spanish Food, Indian Railways, and much more.”
