Exhibition Review

Exhibition Review

Parisian photographer and artist, JR, is exhibiting the biggest body of work available to date, at an institution, with his solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. The show features pieces from his larger collection of work developed over the past fifteen years. One of those works includes the debut of the large format mural, “The Chronicles of New York City.” The artwork features over 1,000 individuals who were photographed by JR in 2018.

JR is mostly known for his artistic work in communities around the world. From the press release, Drew Sawyer states, “Over the past two decades, JR has emerged as one of the most powerful storytellers of our time. Working at the intersections of photography, social engagement, and street art, his collaborative public projects have allowed participants to choose how they would like to be represented in both their communities and the global media.”

If you find yourself in New York between now and May 3, 2020, make sure to check out the exhibition!

The show is curated by Sharon Matt Atkins, Drew Sawyer, Phillip Leonian and Edith Rosenbaum. Leadership support is provided by Clara Wu Tsai. Additional support is provided by the Ford Foundation. All images are provided by the Brooklyn Museum and copyrighted by JR.
