A Civil-Engineer by trade, Horst Schmier has been taking photographs for more then 50 years. His current project titled, “Praise of the Shadow,” was inspired by the Japanese writer Tanizaki Jun’ichirō, who wrote an essay under the same title. Horst prefers using alternative processes and techniques. This particular series was shot with a 5 x 7 large format camera, using an antique, simple Meniscus lens.
