Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which a person temporarily experiences an inability to move, speak, or react during the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep. It is often accompanied by terrifying and unusually powerful hallucinations that one is unable to react to due to the paralysis.
Conceptual photographer Nicolas Bruno has suffered from sleep paralysis since he was 15. After using a journal to take notes and confront the visions, Nicolas decided to use photography as a form of therapy and reference his hallucinations in beautiful but haunting compositions. His work has not only helped him process sleep paralysis, but connect with many of those suffering from it as well.
